First Annual Little Woody Barrel Aged Brew Festival Rolls Into Bend Oregon
Saturday September 12th 2009
Lay It Out Events is proud to present the First Annual Little Woody Barrel Aged Brew Festival. This event promises to be one of Bend’s tastiest events. This festival will feature hand crafted, wood aged beer as well as one specialty brew from all of Central Oregon’s seven breweries. The Little Woody will be the place to be September 12th. Festival goers will enjoy live music, great food, a wood carving exhibition and beer tastings throughout the day and into the night.
The mission of The Little Woody is to celebrate one of Central Oregon’s cultural hallmarks – the great brews created right here in our backyard and provide a fun environment for people to enjoy all of those brews in one place.
In the old days, brewers served beer that was aged in oaken cask, now brewers are rolling back the barrels for flavoring beer. The Little Woody Festival will shine the light on this ancient brewing technique, as adapted by American craft brewers by featuring beers aged in wine barrels, whisky barrels and oak barrels which uniquely flavors and intensifies the beer.
The Little Woody will take place in downtown Bend on the lawn of the Deschutes Historical Society located on the corner of Wall Street and Idaho.
Featured wood aged brews will be created and served by the following breweries:
Deschutes Brewery
Cascade Lakes Brewing
Bend Brewing Company
Silver Moon Brewing
Ten Barrel Brewing
McMenamins
Three Creeks Brewing Co.
Event hours are Saturday September 12th from 12pm-10pm.
Admission to the event is just $6 and includes a commemorative glass.
A tasting package is available for $15 and includes a commemorative glass and tasting tickets. A portion of the event proceeds will benefit the Deschutes Historical Society.

The Barley Cup is a contest for brewers where a random drawing determines the brew style to be crafted. For the patrons and judges, this ensures a full range of beers from which to choose. In keeping with tradition, the Capital City Homebrewers Club determine the overall winner of the Barley Cup trophy. The proud winner goes on to represent McMenamins at the Holiday Ale Festival in downtown Portland in December. Brewers are on hand to answer questions, give tours of the brewery and plead their cases for their own brews.
The Thompson house itself was built in 1905 by Spanish American War veteran Fred Thompson for his father Franklin, a Civil War veteran, and his mother Maria. It is rumored that some of the long-passed Thompsons still hang around, so keep an eye on your beer.
