Meet the Brewer and The Beer
07/13/09
McCormick & Schmicks Harborside Restaurant
Full Sail at Riverplace
0307 SW Montgomery St
Portland
503-222-5343
5-6:30pm
You are invited to swing by and raise a toast with brewer Andy Cummings
and the Full Sail Crew to celebrate Oregon Craft Beer Month and to “Meet
the Brewer and the Beer” at their Riverplace Brewery in Portland, on
Monday, July 13th from 5:00 to 6:30PM and at the Full Sail Tasting Room
and Pub in Hood River, on Thursday, July 16th, from 5:00 to 6:30PM.
In Greek mythology ambrosia was considered the drink of the gods.
Rightfully so that brewer Andy Cummings has crafted this heavenly red
ale; its namesake also means “delightful liquid”. This medium-bodied,
dry-hopped red ale was brewed with a variety of specialty malts
(Crystal, Munich, Honey and Carafa) with a pronounced hop flavor and an
emphasis on the aroma from the dry Brewer’s Gold hops.
Living up to Full Sail’s reputation as “brewers of godlike nectar,” Andy
notes that his inspiration was to brew something for any beer lover to
enjoy midst the summer’s hellacious heat. “It’s generously hopped, but
the alcohol is on the lighter side, making it easy to drink more than
just one… and perhaps experience a bit of that immortality.” ABV 4.9%
IBU 53.
Full Sail’s Brewer’s Share beers will be exclusively available on tap at
Full Sail’s Tasting Room and Pub in Hood River, Oregon, and at Full
Sail’s Brewery at Riverplace, in Portland, Oregon. Growlers to go are
also available. The next Brewer’s Share will be crafted by Full Sail
brewer Nathan Jacobson and is expected in early September.

Bob’s Braggot Debut
07/11/09
Lompoc Sidebar
3901-B N Williams
503-288-3996
11-5 pm
Lompoc Brewing’s 5Q debuts Bob’s Braggot. Lompoc Brewing’s 5th Quadrant and its new Sidebar will host the Bob Farrell Braggot Release Party from noon until 5 p.m. Bob’s Braggot is a traditional braggot (half ale and half mead) made with Willamette Valley honey from Buckwheat and Fireweed wildflowers. The beer was brewed with Bob’s help before he lost his battle with cancer in the Spring of 08.
Lompoc finished the braggot in the fall of ’08 and the brewers believe it has aged enough to serve. Bob would be proud. Portions of the proceeds go to the Oregon Brew Crew and to Farrell’s family for medical costs. Enjoy a glass in the Sidebar or take a 22 oz bottle home for $9.00.
Wait! There’s more! For a mere $1, toss one of the loveable Lompoc brewers into the Dunk Tank to benefit Locks of Love and the Bob Farrell fund, tour the brewery and enjoy another beer in the Bastille Day Beer Garden.

The Barley Cup is a contest for brewers where a random drawing determines the brew style to be crafted. For the patrons and judges, this ensures a full range of beers from which to choose. In keeping with tradition, the Capital City Homebrewers Club determine the overall winner of the Barley Cup trophy. The proud winner goes on to represent McMenamins at the Holiday Ale Festival in downtown Portland in December. Brewers are on hand to answer questions, give tours of the brewery and plead their cases for their own brews.
The Thompson house itself was built in 1905 by Spanish American War veteran Fred Thompson for his father Franklin, a Civil War veteran, and his mother Maria. It is rumored that some of the long-passed Thompsons still hang around, so keep an eye on your beer.
