New Seasonal Brewed as a Farewell to Pelican’s Assistant Head Brewer
Pelican has released its newest seasonal, C-YA! which was a recipe of Head Brewer, Jason Schoneman who has been with the Pelican for four years. He will be departing this month for the Midwest with his wife, Hannah and daughter, Indigo to be closer to family. The idea for C-YA! was in the works at the Pelican for about a year until the staff decided Jason should take the lead on making this farewell brew a reality.
C-YA! is Pelican’s take on an American Pale Ale, big on hop aroma and flavor with a balanced malt flavor and bitterness in the finish. It’s made with 100 percent Centennial hops and is unfiltered but not cloudy. It is currently available at the Pelican on draft.
2009 Bad Santa
The Pelican is brewing its mysterious dark elixir, Bad Santa and it’s coming soon. This popular brew is filled with complex malt flavors alongside toasted malt, cocoa-like and roast aromas. The fragrance blends seamlessly with the alluring herbal and floral aromas that come from copious amounts of Fuggle hops. Look for the ornery elf to be available on draft at the Pelican by November 13 and at Portland’s Holiday Ale Festival on December 2-6 as well as the Cascadian Dark Ale Symposium taking place on January 23, 2010 at Belmont Station.
Winter Brewers Dinner Scheduled for January 23

To reserve your ticket please contact Ken Henson at 503-965-7007 or email at ken@pelicanbrewery.com.
New Vintage of The Perfect Storm and Wee Heavy Released October 30

MacPelican’s Wee Heavy is a Pelican favorite and just came away with a bronze medal in the Scotch Ale category from the Great American Beer Festival. The Pelican has already sold half its cases of The Perfect Storm, so be sure to get this brew while it lasts. To purchase, you can head to the Pelican in Pacific City or have a case shipped to you. For information regarding orders, please contact Ken Henson at 503-965-7007 or at ken@pelicanbrewery.com.

The Barley Cup is a contest for brewers where a random drawing determines the brew style to be crafted. For the patrons and judges, this ensures a full range of beers from which to choose. In keeping with tradition, the Capital City Homebrewers Club determine the overall winner of the Barley Cup trophy. The proud winner goes on to represent McMenamins at the Holiday Ale Festival in downtown Portland in December. Brewers are on hand to answer questions, give tours of the brewery and plead their cases for their own brews.
The Thompson house itself was built in 1905 by Spanish American War veteran Fred Thompson for his father Franklin, a Civil War veteran, and his mother Maria. It is rumored that some of the long-passed Thompsons still hang around, so keep an eye on your beer.
