Dry Hopped English Style I.P.A.-Brewed in an English style, something we don’t often find here in Oregon, this IPA has been aged in bourbon barrels for three months before arriving at this year’s Little Woody. 7.2% ABV, 47 IBUs.
Bend Brewing Co.
Metolius Golden-One of BBC’s most popular beers, the barrel-aged version has been aged in a pinot barrel for eight months. It pours dark golden emitting a sweet fruitiness from the pinot with undertones of oak and black cherry. 5.2% ABV
Sour Outback X-This beer underwent a spontaneous secondary fermentation while aging in one of our oldest bourbon barrels. It pours dark red with the sweet aroma of toffee and dried fruit. The flavor is chewy tart cherries and raisins with hints of bourbon and oak. It ends with chocolate espresso bean dryness. 9.5% ABV
Block 15 Brewing
Super Nebula, Imperial Stout-This creation is aged in fresh emptied bourbon barrels and matured on house-roasted cocoa nibs, giving it a deep black brew with a brown creamy head. It features extremely complex flavors, including notes of molasses, vanilla, bourbon, coffee, roast fig and wood. Huge depth with a warming balanced finish. 11% ABV, 58 IBUs
Wonka’s Wit-A Beligan-inspired wheat ale spiced with orange peels, coriander and locally gathered honey that’s aged in oak barrels for seven to 14 months with wild yeast and bacteria. Refreshingly sour with notes of coriander, orange and fruit with a crisp dry finish. 5.5% ABV.
Boneyard Beer
Bourbon Barrel Black 13-With 13 total ingredients, the rich, roasted, coffee-like flavor of this Black Ale has been aged to perfection in the bourbon barrel. It is served a little lower in carbonation, and has been lightly infused with nitrogen.
Sour Girl-A cherry wheat ale that we have inoculated with lactobacillus and have been aging in the bourbon barrel on additional Oregon cherries. This beer was created in honor of the Flanders style of beer.
Cascade Lakes Brewing Co.
Imperial Stout-A full-bodied, robust version of the style, utilizing eight specialty malts and several months of aging in Jim Beam oak bourbon barrels to provide the complexity, warmth and balance of this dark meal.
Blonde Bombshell-The winner of the Source Weekly’s Best of Central Oregon reader poll, Blonde Bombshell combines subtle malt and wheat flavors with a delicate Liberty hop aroma.
Deschutes Brewery
Berliner Weisse-Deschutes’ version of the original sour beer, which was known as “Champagne of the North” by Napoleon’s troops when visiting Germany. This is a mouth-puckering sour and extremely refreshing Berlinerweisse, but done in Deschutes’ own style. 5% ABV, 18 IBUs
Mirror Mirror-Mirror Mirror is a double Mirror Pond barley wine that was aged in a variety of wooden barrels (including American oak, pinot, port and bourbon). It was then blended and dry hopped, giving it a big, warm, malty flavor with complex oak undertones and esters. 11.5% ABV, 51 IBUs.
McMenamins Old St. Francis School
Barrel Head-A twist on the popular Hammerhead ale that’s aged in a Hogshead whiskey barrel for more than four months and then cold conditioned for another two months. This hoppy ale has unique flavors with a hint of fruit is present in the nose as well but the finish is all dry and woody.
Dark Ages Stout-A dark beer aged for five months in our Hogshead whiskey barrel and then another five months of cold conditioning. A year in the making gives this stout some complex and robust flavors, including a whiskey aroma that plays alongside the sweet and dark flavors of the stout.
Ninkasi Brewing
Wood Aged Total Domination IPA-Multiple hops collide in balanced perfection, dominating the senses, achieving total satisfaction. After it’s normal fermentation process, the beer was added to Pinot Noir casks and dry hopped with Amarillo and Crystal hops. 6.7 % ABV, 65 IBUs.
Believer Double Red Ale-This rich and malty brew is balanced nicely with plentiful hops, giving it a vibrant red color and robust taste, which is why this has become one of the Eugene brewery’s year-around standards. 6.9% ABV, 60 IBUs.
Silver Moon Brewing Co.
Merlot Cask Amber-This is the popular Hounds Tooth Amber aged six months in a French merlot barrel from local vinter Volcano Vineyards. The American-style amber picked up several complex flavors from this rich French oak.
Winter Moon Bourbon-The Winter Warmer was a hit amongst Silver Moon loyalists so the Bend brewery filled a barrel full and let it age. The fresh bourbon brings out the finer flavors of this hoppy and malty complex winter style IPA. 7.4% ABV
Three Creeks Brewing Co.
Beechwood Blonde-The signature Knotty Blonde aged in beech wood that will be light and sassy with a remembrance of the coast on a beautiful summer day.

The Barley Cup is a contest for brewers where a random drawing determines the brew style to be crafted. For the patrons and judges, this ensures a full range of beers from which to choose. In keeping with tradition, the Capital City Homebrewers Club determine the overall winner of the Barley Cup trophy. The proud winner goes on to represent McMenamins at the Holiday Ale Festival in downtown Portland in December. Brewers are on hand to answer questions, give tours of the brewery and plead their cases for their own brews.
The Thompson house itself was built in 1905 by Spanish American War veteran Fred Thompson for his father Franklin, a Civil War veteran, and his mother Maria. It is rumored that some of the long-passed Thompsons still hang around, so keep an eye on your beer.
