North 4 Beer Release-Public unveiling of new brewery space and tasting room

A holiday beer release and tasting will take place at the Fort George’s new production brewery in the Lovell Building.
This is the first event of its kind there—an opportunity to let the public inside this former auto dealership in downtown Astoria after a decade of vacancy. Brewers will provide customers complimentary samples and education about their latest beer, North IV, as well as tours of the new facility.

“It is so great being at a beer tasting. I love talking beer with customers, the insight they have and the input on our beer as well,” said Fort George Head Brewer, Spencer Gotter.

Every year the brewery raises the bar on North, and Gotter says this year’s batch is the best. Inspiration for “North the Fourth”, a strong ale, came from the Christmas tree. With more than 40 pounds of spruce tips, 60 pounds of cranberries, and a two-pound candy cane to an 8.5 barrel batch, this unique brew embraces some of the classic elements of the holidays. A limited supply of North IV 22-ounce bottles will be for sale including case discounts during the tasting.

The new 30-barrel production brewery is located in the Lovell Building, just to the west of the current Fort George Brewery + Public House. The company began restoring the historic building last spring, adding a brewery, events space, tasting room, and preparations for a beer canning line, which is set to arrive in the near future.

The official Fort George Brewery release of North IV is set for Wednesday, November 24th, from 5-6 p.m. in the Lovell Building (426 14th Street, Astoria OR). There will be a North IV pre-release party at Baked Alaska in Astoria on Tuesday, November 23rd from 5-6 p.m. The beer will also be featured at Portland’s Holiday Ale Festival in December.

Full Sail Brewing Offers New Release in Brewer’s Share Line-Up – Pub’s Powder Stash Pale
Full Sail Brewers Share Release Powder Stash Pale
Hood River, Oregon – The peaks are covered in fresh snow and the ski and snowboard season has finally arrived. To celebrate the newly fallen snow and the predictions for an epic snowfall year, Full Sail will release a new beer in their Brewer’s Share line up, Powder Stash Pale, brewed by Full Sail’s Pub staff.

“It’s an easy drinking, low alcohol, nitro beer so it’ll be smooth and creamy, just like the powder on the mountain,” says Matt Bowers, Full Sail’s Tasting Room and Pub Assistant Manager. “We decided to brew this beer to contrast the strong, dark and hoppy beers typical of the season. We thought having a nice easy drinking smooth nitro beer would be a great option after a day on the snow. Brewed with pale malt for its drinkability and dry hopped with Simcoe’s for a piney citrus character, it’ll drink light, but will have lots of flavor,” added Lisa Merkin, Full Sail’s Tasting Room and Pub Manager. ABV 5% IBU 50.

Full Sail has scheduled two “Meet the Brewer and the Beer” events to showcase this new beer. The first Meet Brewer and the Beer event will be at Full Sail at Riverplace in Portland, Monday, November, 29th, from 5:00 – 6:30PM. The second is at the Full Sail Tasting Room and Pub in Hood River, on Thursday, December 2nd from 5:00 to 6:30PM. Join the Full Sail crew to celebrate and toast a pint of this new brew.

With each Brewer’s Share beer, Full Sail picks a local charity to receive a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the beer. The Pub crew has chosen to support the Hood River Crag Rats, so every keg of the Pub’s Powder Stash Pale benefits the nation’s oldest mountain rescue group.

The Brewer’s Share series is a line up of small batch draft beers where each Full Sailor takes a turn hand-crafting their own single batch recipe and a portion of the proceeds benefit a local charity of their choosing. Full Sail’s Brewer’s Share beers will only be available on tap at Full Sail’s Tasting Room and Pub in Hood River, Oregon, and at Full Sail’s Brewery at Riverplace, in Portland, Oregon. Growlers to go are available. The next Brewer’s Share will be brewed by Brewer Chris Davis and is expected in January.

The Barley Cup is a contest for brewers where a random drawing determines the brew style to be crafted. For the patrons and judges, this ensures a full range of beers from which to choose. In keeping with tradition, the Capital City Homebrewers Club determine the overall winner of the Barley Cup trophy. The proud winner goes on to represent McMenamins at the Holiday Ale Festival in downtown Portland in December. Brewers are on hand to answer questions, give tours of the brewery and plead their cases for their own brews.

The Thompson house itself was built in 1905 by Spanish American War veteran Fred Thompson for his father Franklin, a Civil War veteran, and his mother Maria. It is rumored that some of the long-passed Thompsons still hang around, so keep an eye on your beer.
