Joshua M. Bernstein will celebrate his new book “Brewed Awakening: Behind the Beers and Brewers Leading the World’s Craft Brewing Revolution” at the Cascade Brewing Barrel House’s weekly Tap It Tuesday event on Tuesday, November 15 at 6 pm. The Cascade Brewing Barrel House is located at 939 SE Belmont St.
Josh will start the evening as the guest tapper at Tap It Tuesday, a weekly event at which a tap is driven into a live barrel of aging sour beer. He may be an expert on beer, but how good is he at tapping a barrel? According to Josh, “I’ll make sure to bring my poncho,” referencing the likelihood of what is known at Cascade as a “sour shower.” Josh will then reveal some stories and insights about the World’s Craft Brewing Revolution, while signing copies of the book (which retails for $24.95).

RELEASING SATURDAY NOVEMBER 12th 12PM-4PM. Hellshire Day. Stop by the brewery to get your bottles of Hellshire II, Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout. There is NO limit, so hurry before our limited supply runs out.
Plus we’ll have some supper rare and fun barrel aged beers as well, including this version of Hellshire, a preview of Skookumchuck Wild Ale, Gin Barrel Aged Frederic’s Lost Arm and the very last keg of Nitro Bourbon Badger which is tasting Awesome! (Barrel Aged beers will be $5 snifters and $2 taster glasses). And if that wasn’t enough, we are selling 48 bottles of Hellshire I, Bourbon Barrel Aged Barleywine. There is a one bottle limit on these and they will sell for $20.
During our release party, we’ll be rocking the new stereo speakers in our newly remodeled tasting room since the cold weather has forced us to cancel the live local band. However, we have just been informed that Oregon Wood Fired Pizza will be joining us. We’ll have a little heat inside and outside though, so grab your coat and someone to snuggle with and join us for our second Hellshire Day.
Bonus info:
Last Sunday we bottled our first Wild Ale, Skookumchuck Wild Ale. It is the first in our new “Brewers Reserve Series Beers”, beers in very small quantities, matured with love in wine barrels, and often soured. This blend of three different beers from 5 different barrels is tentatively scheduled to release on Friday November 18th. We are waiting for Mr. Yeast to do it’s job in the bottle so that the secondary fermentation can happen. We’ll be announcing the firm date soon. Skookumchuck is the third beer in our EWEB Centennial series and will only be for sale on the dock, so come on down to the Oakshire tasting room to get yours. And don’t forget the preview of it on Saturday November 12th.

The Barley Cup is a contest for brewers where a random drawing determines the brew style to be crafted. For the patrons and judges, this ensures a full range of beers from which to choose. In keeping with tradition, the Capital City Homebrewers Club determine the overall winner of the Barley Cup trophy. The proud winner goes on to represent McMenamins at the Holiday Ale Festival in downtown Portland in December. Brewers are on hand to answer questions, give tours of the brewery and plead their cases for their own brews.
The Thompson house itself was built in 1905 by Spanish American War veteran Fred Thompson for his father Franklin, a Civil War veteran, and his mother Maria. It is rumored that some of the long-passed Thompsons still hang around, so keep an eye on your beer.
