Joins the Year Round All GF Line-Up

Harvester Brewing’s Gluten-Free Red Ale joins Pale and Dark Ales in Year Round All GF Line-Up

Responding to popular demand, Harvester Brewing is bringing their Red Ale into year-round production. The Red Ale was originally released as one of the Experiment Ale series of seasonal/rotating beers. The Red Ale will have its own label, joining the Pale Ale and Dark Ale in the year-round line-up.

The Red Ale is made with a medium dark roast of Willamette Valley chestnuts that lend great flavor to the beer as well as a beautiful red color. Additional ingredients include certified gluten-free oats, pure cane sugar, and sorghum balancing the flavor profile. The Red Ale features Willamette hops and comes in at ~ 5.8% ABV and 25 IBU.

With the Red Ale has moving to year-round production, Harvester is looking forward to developing new and exciting beers to add to the Experiment Ale series. Expect to see the Red Ale hitting shelves in its own label by the end of the month. Additional information on all of our beers as well as an image of the Red Ale label is available here.

IN PORTLAND BREWERY EXPANSION

WIDMER BROTHERS BREWING INVESTS $3 MILLION IN PORTLAND BREWERY EXPANSION:INSTALLS FOUR NEW 1,750 BARREL FERMENTATION TANKS
Brewery Production to Increase by 10,000–12,000 Barrels per Month

PORTLAND, Ore. – May 21, 2012 – Widmer Brothers Brewing is expanding its Portland, Ore., brewery to increase production by as much as 10,000 to 12,000 barrels per month. Beginning Monday, May 21, the brewery will install the first two of four new 1,750 barrel fermentation tanks. This expansion reaffirms the brewery’s commitment to growing Oregon’s craft beer industry, fuels local job creation, and allows the company to increase production while remaining at its North Portland location.

“We are thrilled to expand the brewery. Our last expansion was in 2008, and we’re to a point where increasing the brewery’s capacity has become necessary for further growth,” said Kurt Widmer, co-founder of Widmer Brothers Brewing. “This expansion is not only a significant landmark for Widmer Brothers, but for the Oregon craft beer community. While national domestic beer sales are declining, craft beer is on the rise and the Portland brewing community is largely behind driving the innovation and excitement for the craft beer industry.”

The company is investing more than $3 million in the expansion, which is part of a multi-phased growth project that includes a $1.7 investment in the new fermentation tanks, and a $1.3 million investment in the brewery’s bright tank cellar which is due to be complete in the fall. The expansion will increase the brewery’s production capacity by 140,000 barrels per year, estimating to a total annual capacity of 700,000 to 800,000 barrels and will serve the needs of Widmer Brothers Brewing and the Craft Brew Alliance portfolio. The brewery expects to be operating at full capacity by 2013 and will now run 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“Nearly thirty years ago when Kurt and I sought out to start a brewery, we never imagined where it would lead,” said Rob Widmer, co-founder of Widmer Brothers Brewing. “The Widmer Brothers Brewing team is producing incredible beers and is really driving the potential of what craft beer can be. We’re extremely proud of how far the brewery has come and look forward to the opportunities presented by this expansion.”

Full Sail Brewing Releases New Brewer’s Share Experimental Beer, Allman’s All Mild:Brewery Invites you to Meet the Brewer and the Beer and Support the Columbia Gorge Ecology Institute

Hood River, Oregon – To celebrate American Craft Beer Week (May 14-20th), Full Sail Brewing will release a new beer in their Brewer’s Share Experimental line up: “Allman’s All Mild” crafted by Lead Lab Technician Joshua Allman. Inspired by traditional English mild style beers he found in London pubs in his early 20s, Joshua wanted to honor his English heritage and those fond memories by brewing his own mild style ale.

Allman’s All Mild is a beautiful light copper colored English Mild Ale, using a blend of 2-row Pale, Munich, English crystal and brown malts that provide a toasty biscuit character and a dry and balanced finish. Golding and Willamette hops impart an herbal aroma and subtle hop finish that complements the malt complexity. The ale’s low carbonation delivers an incredibly refreshing and light beer perfect for summertime enjoyment. ABV 4.1% IBU 25

“Coming from English heritage, I was very excited to brew this easy drinking and sessionable ale for Full Sail,” says Joshua. “This is a great beer for the warm and sunny days ahead, and a beer that you can enjoy pint after pint with friends. I selected English malts that provide the flavor I remember fondly from that first pint in London. I hope you all enjoy the simple beauty of this Old World brew. Cheers!”

Full Sail has scheduled two “Meet the Brewer and the Beer” events to showcase this new beer. The first Meet Brewer and the Beer event will be at Full Sail at Riverplace in Portland, Tuesday, May 15th, from 5:00 – 6:30PM. The second is at the Full Sail Tasting Room and Pub in Hood River, on Thursday, May 17th from 5:00 to 6:30PM. Join the Full Sail crew to celebrate and toast a pint of this new brew.

With each Brewer’s Share series beer, Full Sail picks a local charity to receive a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the beer. Joshua has chosen to support the Columbia Gorge Ecology Institute, so every keg of Allman’s All Mild benefits this organization whose mission is to create life-long learning opportunities that foster a sense of wonder and community stewardship in the natural systems of the Columbia River Gorge.

The Brewer’s Share Experimental series is a line-up of small batch draft beers where each Full Sail brewer takes a turn hand-crafting their own single batch recipe. A portion of the proceeds benefit a local charity or organization of their choice. Full Sail’s Brewer’s Share Experimental beers will only be available on tap at Full Sail’s Tasting Room and Pub in Hood River, Oregon, and at Full Sail’s Brewery at Riverplace, in Portland, Oregon. Growlers to go are available. The next Brewer’s Share Experimental will be brewed by Brewer, Clinton Wertzbaugher and is planned for late summer.

Bring Mom Out for a Beer 2012-Full Sail hosts brewery open house for Mother’s Day

Hood River, Or – This Mother’s Day, show your mom some love with quality time and a local beer. She’s been teaching you for years; it’s your turn to show her a thing or two. So grab your mom and swing by Full Sail, take a tour, grab a bite, have a pint and soak up the view. Share with her your favorite beer, treat her to a meal and Full Sail will treat her to dessert. Who knows? You may just convert her to a beer goddess of sorts. If she’s not already, that is.

“Having a chance to honor moms is something very special to us. A big percentage of the Full Sail crew is female and many of us are moms too. At Full Sail, we are not about business as usual. We are about truly appreciating our “human resources,” and building a culture that’s based on balancing work, life, family and friends,” said Irene Firmat, Full Sail’s Founder & CEO. “And who’s better at achieving that balance than mothers?”

From 1-4PM on Sunday, May 13th, Mother’s Day, the Pink Boots Society has invited breweries, brewpubs, restaurants, bars and bottle shops all across the nation to raise a pint in appreciation of all moms. Full Sail will open their brewhouse doors to guests and their moms for a fun and informative guided tour of the brewery. Meet the people behind the pints and learn about the art and science of crafting beer. You’ll also see the local ingredients used to concoct Full Sail’s award winning brews and learn a plethora of Full Sail fun facts and history, including their sustainable brewing practices.

After, you can sample brews and grab a bite in the Tasting Room and Pub and Full Sail will treat mom to a free dessert with the purchase of a meal. If there is one thing a brewer loves more than great beer – it’s great food and great beer! Full Sail’s northwest inspired menu complements their award winning brews and features seasonal, local ingredients. Tours begin and end in the Tasting Room and Pub. Tours are free of charge at 1, 2, 3 and 4pm and each tour participant will receive a complementary glass. (Kids 12 and over welcome on Tours with parent or guardian.) The Tasting Room and Pub opens at 11:00am for more information call 541-386-2247.

Oregon Garden Brewfest raises a glass to record attendance at 8th annual event

SILVERTON, Ore. – April 30, 2012 – The 8th annual Oregon Garden Brewfest smashed attendance records this past Friday & Saturday, with more than 6,000 people rolling through the gates, nearly double last year’s record of 3,200. Attendees came from all over the northwest to sample from more than 90 handcrafted beers and ciders from 45 different breweries.

The People’s Choice, as determined by votes cast at the festival, was a last minute entry by Gigantic Brewing. The City Never Sleeps, a black saison, was the debut of Gigantic Brewing, the collaboration of Van Havig and Ben Love, two rock stars in the Portland brewing scene who will open the doors to their production brewery in SE Portland in a few weeks. Other crowd favorites included Seven Brides Brewing’s Becky’s Black CatPorter and Calapooia’s Chili Beer.

The two-day event kicked off Thursday night with an inaugural Brewer’s Tasting Dinner, a six-course tasting featured small plates paired with beers from six Northwest breweries. Brewing industry members mingled with craft beer aficionados at the intimate event, which featured a short introduction by each of the brewers about that particular beer prior to it being served.

Another popular activity was a presentation given both days by Women Enjoying Beer, a research based education and marketing company that develops and serves female (and male) beer consumers. Founder Ginger Johnson helped the enthusiastic crowds learn how to better enjoy their beer at the festival by talking about beer’s color, aroma and flavor.

The Oregon Garden Brewfest took place under twinkly white lights in the Frank J. Schmidt Pavilion on the grounds of the Oregon Garden, with spillover in an outdoor clear-topped tent. Attendees were welcome to stroll through the lush landscaping of The Oregon Garden in-between drinks. Crowds squeezed together to enjoy the music of a number of local bands, particularly Saturday night’s headliner Blitzen Trapper.

Many attendees took advantage of The Oregon Garden Resort on the grounds and booked rooms right up the hill from the festival. The Oregon Garden Resort, a Moonstone Hotel property, offers 103 rooms overlooking The Oregon Garden and offered special brewfest package deals.

The Oregon Garden Brewfest always takes place the last weekend in April. The 9th annual event will take place April 26 & 27, 2013.
