Official Nonprofit Chosen
PORTLAND, Ore. — The littlest big beer festival in the world – or at least in Portland – is slated for Sunday, May 13, with tickets going on sale March 29 at the official website: http://www.fredfestpdx.com
The event, which always sells out, is highly anticipated in the craft beer community, with fans flocking from across the country to attend and pay homage to Fred Eckhardt, the Dean of American Beer Writers.
What started as a surprise 80th birthday party for the world-renowned Portland resident, FredFest has become a significant fundraiser for the nonprofit organization of Eckhardt’s choice. Now in its seventh year, FredFest has selected Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East as its official fundraising recipient. That means 100 percent of this year’s proceeds from FredFest will go toward building a home for a Portland family.
“Our goal is to raise at least $10,000 from FredFest,” says co-organizer Lisa Morrison. “Of course, we’d love to raise a lot more, but $5,000 will build an entire bedroom for one Portland kid. We want to make it a double. Not bad for an afternoon of drinking great beer and having a fun time!”
In a quest to answer the timeless question: “What Would Fred Drink?” lucky Fred fans and brewers will gather at the Hair of the Dog brewery and tasting room at 61 SE Yamhill in Portland on May 13 from 2-6 p.m., where they will be treated not only to a rare assortment of hand-selected beers, but also light fare — and birthday cake, complete with a round of the “Happy Birthday” song for Fred. Cheeses, chocolate, candy and even cereal will be offered in abundance so attendees can experience some of Fred’s more infamous beer-and-food pairings.
Tickets are $60 advance. Cost for FredFest includes a souvenir glass, free ticket for a raffle of bottled specialty beers and other goodies (more raffle tickets will be on sale at FredFest) plus four hours of sampling, sipping, singing and storytelling with Fred.

WIDMER BROTHERS BREWING RELEASES OATMEAL PORTER
Expands Series 924 With First of Three Limited-Release Beers
PORTLAND, Ore. – Feb. 28, 2012– Widmer Brothers Brewingis expanding its Series 924 with the introduction of Oatmeal Porter, the first of three limited-release Series 924 beers that will be unveiled in 2012. Joining the two year-round Series 924 offerings, Pitch Black IPA and Nelson Imperial IPA, this rich porter was brewed with custom-toasted oats made specifically for Widmer Brothers by Briess Malting of Chilton, Wis. The oats, which have appropriately been dubbed “Bro-Oats,”contribute to the beer’s velvety mouth feel and distinct nutty flavors. Hints of caramel and toffee give this brew a touch of sweetness, complemented by mocha aromas and a smooth finish. Oatmeal Porter is now available in four-packs of 12-ounce bottles, in 22-ounce bottles and on draught nationwide.
“Oatmeal Porter is a great addition to Series 924,as it really adds balance to Nelson Imperial and Pitch Black as part of the series,” said Ben Dobler, a Widmer Brothers brewer. “We loved the idea of brewing a beer with a custom-roasted oat blend, but rather than brew the more popular oatmeal stout style, we wanted something a little different – and Oatmeal Porter turned out great.”
About Oatmeal Porter:
Ingredients:
•Malts: Pale, Bro-Oats, Munich 20L, Dark Chocolate, Special Roast
•Hops: Alchemy and Cascade
Profile:
•Original Gravity: 14.2 P

GoodLife Brewing Company Bottles Mountain Rescue Dry Hop Pale Ale
Bend, ORE (February 15th, 2012) GoodLife Brewing Company is excited to announce the release of 22oz Mountain Rescue Dry Hop Pale Ale bottles. We will be bottling 600 cases of 22oz bottles that will allow people to enjoy a GoodLife beer wherever life may take them. Being fans of the outdoors, bottles will be an easier way to enjoy one of your favorite beers without having to carry a keg on your back during your next adventure.
You will be able to find the bottles at your local bottle shop initially with hopes of being in grocery stores and convenient stores in the next 6 months.
GoodLife Brewing Company is currently distributing all their beers in Bend and Portland via Point Blank Distributing. The Odom Corporation will distribute to the remainder of Oregon, Northern Idaho, Washington and Alaska while Idaho Distributing Company will supply Idaho statewide, except for the Northern Panhandle.
For additional information, visit the brewery located at 70 SW Century Drive in Bend, OR or visit www.GoodLifeBrewing.com.
A big CONGRATS to this year’s People’s Choice Winners:
1st – Mustache Rye’d Red, Flat Tail Brewing, Corvallis OR
2nd – Descender, GoodLife Brewing, Bend OR
3rd – Nice & Naughty, 2 Towns Ciderhouse, Corvallis OR
This was our 11th year of hosting the event, and by far our largest Festival to date. The changes we made this year – selling advance tickets, using scanners at the door, the 1 p.m. start on Saturday, a better layout, increased publicity – all paid off. And best of all, the Fest ran smoothly and everyone had a great time. Our attendance and revenue were up 42%!! This event is growing along with the microbrew industry and we are proud to be a part of it.
We had 55 breweries represented at the Fest, serving over 120 different beers plus 9 versions of the Collaboration Brew.
The Fest brought in 6,400 paying customers (nearly 3,000 purchased tickets in advance), approximately 250 brewery personnel & guests, and over 450 volunteers. That’s a total of 7,100 people enjoying the Fest throughout the weekend – up 2,200 from last year!!
Our two bands – Karen Lovely and Ty Curtis Band – added a great blues sound to the beer sampling atmosphere. The Music Sale nearly sold out of records and CDs, and almost $8,000 of Brewery Merchandise was purchased by happy consumers.
We’d like to thank all of our sponsors for their generous support: DariMart for helping to pay for the beer glasses, and The Bier Stein, Capella Market, Cozmic, Falling Sky Brewing, Midtown Direct Smoke Shop, Rennie’s Landing, and Sundance Natural Food for helping to cover the costs of the event.
